Five companies have responded to the Brazilian air force's F-X request for proposals. Initially 12 to 24 fighters valued at$700 million are required.Aircraft bid are the Lockheed Martin F-16C/DBlock 50/52, RSKMiG-29SMTFulcrum and Saab/BAE Gripen, while Russian state arms agency Rosoboron export is teamed with Brazil's Avibrás offering the Sukhoi Su-30MK or Su-35, and Embraer is linked with its French shareholders Dassault, Snecma and Thales proposing the Mirage 2000BR. A shortlist is due in November, a winner in December and contracts by June.
