The Brazilian air force issued earlier this month a request for proposals for the acquisition of two VIP-configured helicopters. With an eye on delivery by May 2008, the two helicopters will be employed for presidential transport duties - reportedly in lieu of the two Eurocopter AS355F Ecureuils currently used for short-range transport tasks. It is understood that this procurement programme is budgeted at approximately $14 million for two "green" airframes, with a second contract covering the fitting-out of both helicopters. According to Brazilian air force sources, proposals must be handed in by late August, with contract signing before the end of the year.
