The Bulgarian defence ministry is seeking bids to repair and upgrade its 21 RSK MiG-29s, currently grounded by breakdowns. The deputy chief of air staff, Lt-Gen Nikola Kolev, has admitted that Soviet-era equipment is becoming difficult to maintain, but Bulgaria has no money for newer systems. The winner of the contract will also update navigation, communications and targeting systems to NATO standards.
