US Department of Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater is in China and hoping to continue his open skies crusade around the world.
Slater says he has two chief aims - to ensure China's commitment to membership of the World Trade Organisation, which is expected to happen later this year; and to begin discussions about forging a liberalised aviation - or open skies - agreement.
The USA has established open skies agreements with more than 60 countries around the world in recent years. Such deals give the airlines of each country much wider access to each other's cities.
