Bids for the construction of the new Berlin Brandenburg international airport at Schönefeld came in at the beginning of June and are now in the process of being considered by the Government-owned Berlin Brandenburg Flughafen Holding (BBF).

Two consortia have placed bids: Hochtief Construction, Frankfurt Main Airport, ABB and possibly Bankgesellschaft Berlin; and IVG Holding, Vienna Airport, Dresdner Bank, Kommerzbank, and Dorsch Consult. A decision should be taken in the third quarter on which of the consortia will take a 74.9% stake in the Holding, and carry out the planned airport expansion.

The expanded airport is due to be completed by 2007 At a cost of DM6 billion ($3.36 billion) to DM8 billion, and will offer capacity for 20 million passengers.
