SPS Technologies' Cannon-Muskegon subsidiary has developed an improved version of its CMSX-4 alloy for use in aircraft jet engines and industrial gas engines.

Ken Harris, the company's director of technology, says the alloy, designated as CMSX-4 (SLS) (LA+Y), incorporates melt desulfurisation techniques to bring the S level down to <1ppm, combined with excellent alloy cleanliness represented by 2-3ppm. "You wouldn't have the engines without us," says Harris.
