Russia's Energomash company has tested the new single-chamber RD-704 rocket engine, which is designed to power a potential new re-useable launcher early next century. The RD-704 is a derivative of the RD-701 which burns liquid-oxygen oxidiser and kerosene propellant for the first flight phase, switching to liquid-hydrogen propellant at high altitude.
