Keep up with all the action as it happens from the show 24 hours a day by tuning in to the airshow’s official radio station, Farnborough Radio, on 106.8FM.
The station features a mixture of up-to-date news, interviews and music. Run by students of local Farnborough Technical College, it is transmitted all over the site and in the surrounding areas of Surrey and Northeast Hampshire.
“We carry live commentary of the displays, giving listeners a good indication of what they are missing if they are not here,” says station manager Fred Marden.
Fifteen students help Marden run the station, which is in its twelfth year, as part of their work placements. “It is a great way to demonstrate our technical radio skills,” says student Geetha Singarabiru.
The station transmits locally to over 150,000 listeners, and also streams over the Internet. “Farnborough is the biggest airshow in the world. The thought that we are able to transmit all the latest news from the show to somewhere like Australia is very exciting. With the web the sky is our limit,” says Marden.
