Howmet has won a contract from AlliedSignal Aerospace to supply castings for its new 18-40kN (4,000-9,000lb) AS900 turbofan, proposed for aircraft such as the British Aerospace Avro regional jet. The contract could be worth $120 million, says the Greenwich, Connecticut-based company, the wholly owned subsidiary of which, Cercast, of Montreal, Canada, will produce aluminium investment castings for the programme.
