Astech and Burbank Nacelle have joined forces to create a P&W JT8D Hushkit for the Douglas DC-9.
It can be seen here at the Paris show in Hall 3/B11c, where the American firm Astech is making its debut appearance.
Manager Marco Cavazzoni says: "This model has been developed to meet FFA stage 3 noise requirements, which all aircraft have to be accredited with by the end of 1999.
Honeycomb
"The secret of the model is the all-welded acoustically treated honeycomb. This gives it a longer life than our competitors' units.
"Similar units that have been flying for 17 years or more without repairs prove this," he adds.
"We have also changed the alloy used to a lighter one making the barrel lighter than competitors and price competitive."
