ILA 2008, the word’s oldest air show with this year being its 99th anniversary, will officially open this morning with Germany’s Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel cutting the ribbon.
Dr Merkel will take a 90-minute tour of the show accompanied by Arakkaparambil Kurian Antony, the Indian minister of defence of India, and other VIPs.
The opening tour will commence at 12.30pm at the display commemorating the “60th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift” on the eastern side of the exhibition site (Display 1).
Dr Merkel will open the event next to the Airbus A 380.
This year’s predicted record show has 1,127 exhibitors from 37 countries and there are more than 300 aircraft here with many taking part in flying displays.
