Boeing subsidiary Insitu has received a $7.2 million contract to deliver 10 ScanEagle unmanned aircraft systems to Poland over the next 12 months.

The deal, announced on 23 September by the US Department of Defense, means the Bingen, Washington-based manufacturer has secured its first European customer for the small, long-endurance UAS type.

The ScanEagle is deployed around the world by the US Navy, US Marine Corps and Australian army, and the manufacturer is pursuing more sales opportunities in the USA, Asia and Europe.

Poland is expected to deploy the ScanEagle to support ground forces in Afghanistan with its payloads of electro-optical and infrared cameras.
