The Israeli air force and the US air force are to jointly develop an aircrew helmet that will give warning of incipient g-induced loss of consciousness.

A prototype of the special helmet has been developed by the air force with funding from the Israeli Ministry of Defence. The prototype is based on a set of electrodes built into the helmet to monitor the pilot's brainwaves continuously. When the brainwave patterns indicate near unconsciousness, the system will either take control of the aircraft or give a warning.

The prototype has so far been tested to determine its ability to detect changes in brainwave patterns, but it is scheduled be tested soon in a centrifuge system producing high g forces.
