Flight International online news 08:30GMT: A JetBlue Airways Airbus A320 has made a successful emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport after suffering problems with its landing gear.
The aircraft was operating as flight 292 between Burbank’s Bob Hope airport and New York’s JFK airport and was carrying 145 passengers and crew.
Reports quote airline personnel as saying the pilots reported a landing gear warning light was illuminated after takeoff from Burbank at 15:17. Live television pictures of the aircraft in flight showed its nose wheels turned perpendicular to the fuselage. The cockpit crew was also reportedly not able to retract the main landing gear.
After burning off fuel the aircraft was directed to Los Angeles International Airport, where the successful emergency landing was made at around 18:20. The nose wheels remained perpendicular to the aircraft on landing but the gear did not collapse and no evacuation was ordered.
