Lockheed Martin is set to announce a takeover of an unnamed Australian defence electronics company as part of plans to expand its industrial footprint in the country.
Lockheed Martin Australia managing director Paul Johnson says the company wants to increase its footprint in Australia. "It is an acquisition. This will be modest and will add capability in key areas that we believe Lockheed Martin needs as it looks at sustainment of some programmes in Australia."
Johnson says the firm in question "is likely to be in the electronics sector. But given the way Lockheed Martin is moving, which is more towards IT, it spans into the information system and geographic system areas as well."
The target employs 120 people, says Johnson, and holds several military contracts.
