Lord Corporation's active noise and vibration control system, which it calls NVX, has received FAA certification for both DC-9 and MD-80 aircraft. The system features a new actuator design with a reduction in power requirements - down to 300 watts. Programme manager Becky Weih says it is also simpler to install.
The NVX system reduces cabin noise in DC-9s and MD-80s by as much as 70% which makes the back row of seats in the aircraft much pleasanter to travel in.
Air Canada will be installing Lord's NVX systems in its fleet of 25 DC-9s and installation will begin immediately, with completion in 1999.
