US President Bill Clinton introduced a new space policy on 19 September, which sees as economically unrealistic any hopes of launching a manned flight to Mars in the next 20 years. Instead, Clinton has confirmed NASA's policy of continuing with plans for robotic exploration of the Red Planet. The policy affirms US space companies' international co-operation.
