MCDONNELL DOUGLAS HAS CARRIED OUT ground-test runs of its F-18E Super Hornet's General Electric F414 engines, including after-burning trials, in the run-up to the aircraft being flown for the first time in December. Plans call for up to 1,000 examples of the advanced Hornet derivative to be purchased by the US Navy over the next 20 years. t
