The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has called for cockpit video recorders in all commercial airliners, saying recent mysterious accidents could have been solved more quickly with the devices.
NTSB Chairman Jim Hall says recent technological advancements have made cockpit video a viable accident investigation tool. Earlier this year, the US Federal Aviation Administration was urged by the NTSB to require the installation of cameras within five years.
The US pilot union is opposed to cameras, as it wishes to protect pilots' privacy.
