Eurocopter is forecasting a demand for more than 1,000 helicopters in China over the next 20 years.

In the shorter term, EADS’s roorcraft division sees a requirement for 300 helicopters before 2015 – with a boost coming as early as 2008 when China hosts the Olympic Games.

“Eurocopter’s current success in the civil and parapublic sector in China is an excellent jumping board for increased business considering the enormous potential of the Chinese market,” the company said in its presentation yesterday afternoon at Asian Aerospace.

“The Olympic Games plus the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010 are just two events, which shows China’s need for helicopters as a public service tool.”

The Franco-German-Spanish helicopter company is well positioned to meet China’s requirements, having been investing in the country for more than 40 years. The company has a market share of more than 45% and has set up a Chinese subsidiary, Eurocopter China Co. Ltd.
