The International Air Transport Association says it has filed almost 1,000 pages of argument as part of the European Union's consultation to bolster airline passenger rights. IATA argues that the EU's proposed regulations will create legal and administrative complexity and regional differentiation, confusing airlines and passengers. IATA adds that the proposed legislation is "excessive", and that it singles out airlines for a higher level of product liability than almost any other service industry. The US Air Transport Association has also filed objections, saying that there is no clear legal applicability of such laws in an international marketplace.
