SpaceDev has been criticised by US financial watchdog the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for making unrealistic predictions about the worth of its proposed, privately funded Near Earth Asteroid Prospector (NEAP) mission.
The SEC also claims that NASA has approved use of its Deep Space Network to support the mission and that the Colorado company has violated anti-fraud provisions. SpaceDev chairman Jim Benson likens the action to "-shooting at ants with an elephant gun".
