LAST WEEK'S PICTURE

Spaceflight picture of the week 21 July 2006

Thanks to all of the readers who suggested an explanation this week.  Unfortunately nobody guessed correctly.

Last week’s image shows the Long March 3B rocket falling back to earth in a ball of flames, seconds after lifting off from the launch site in Xichang. The rocket’s failure was the second set-back for China’s fledging aerospace industry in less than 13 months, following an accident in January 1995.
