The Spanish government has ordered two EADS CASA CN-235 twin turboprops for its civilian police force, the Guardia Civil. The maritime patrol-configured aircraft, which are the first fixed-wing types in service with the force, will be used to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration and will undertake border patrol and maritime search and rescue missions. The first aircraft will be delivered in the middle of the year and the second by April 2009. Both CN-235s will be equipped with forward-looking infrared and a fully integrated tactical system.
