The US Army has successfully test fired a production Block IA Army TACMS missile. The missile is the extended-range variant of the present Loral Army TACMS Block I weapon. The test was the first of three to prove the design, missile hardware and system software. Pending the results of the tests, a low-rate-initial production decision is planned for May. The Block IA missile includes a global-positioning-system receiver which allows the missile to receive in-flight guidance updates.
