The first safe-jettison and release tests of a Matra Apache stand-off missile from a German air force Panavia Tornado have been carried out. The tests were conducted in July off the Cazaux test centre on the Atlantic coast of France. According to the German Government's arms-procurement agency BWB, the tests so far prove that two Apaches can safely be carried and launched from a Tornado, and will lead to a live firing trial in about mid-1997.
