The UK Ministry of Defence is considering ordering an upgrade of the Royal Air Force's 40 Thermal Imaging Airborne Laser Designator (TIALD) pods with GEC-Marconi Avionics' Vector Imaging Tracker System (VITS) 1000. The MoD says that a contract could be placed during the first half of next year. GEC-Marconi says the VITS1000 offers "more robust tracking".
