The US Navy has released a request for proposals (RFP) to start preliminary work on developing a replacement Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA) for the Lockheed Martin P-3C/EP-3C. The navy plans to award three or four component advanced development contracts to define the MMA system architecture, reduce risk and develop detailed plans and schedules for each proposed solution. It plans to select one and begin system development and demonstration in late 2003.
