The Lockheed Martin/AgustaWestland/Bell Helicopter US101 that won the US Navy’s VXX competition for the next presidential helicopter has been officially designated the VH-71A. A popular name is still under consideration. The VH-71A will replace Sikorsky VH-3D and VH-60N helicopters now used to transport the US president. The US101 – now H-71 – is also being offered for the US Air Force’s CSAR-X combat search-and-rescue requirement, formerly the Personnel Recovery Vehicle. The H-69 and H-70 designations have not been assigned.
