The US Air Force has erected the first two of four climate-controlled transportable hangars on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean to support the forward deployment of the Northrop Grumman B-2 bomber. Satellite imagery taken by ImageSat International in November shows the 76m (250ft)-long polyester-vinyl-covered structures. Diego Garcia is 5,365km (2,900nm) from Baghdad, slashing the B-2's mission time compared to operating from Whiteman AFB, Missouri. Also on the airfield are eight Boeing B-52s, seven Boeing KC-135s, a Boeing 747, a McDonnell Douglas DC-8 freighter, two Lockheed Martin P-3Cs and a UK BAe Nimrod MR2.
