Space Systems/Loral has resumed construction of the first dedicated Ka-band spot-beam commercial communications satellite, WildBlue 1. Work on the 10kW spacecraft was delayed when WildBlue ran into financial difficulties, but a new infusion of finance has allowed the project to proceed. The broadband communications satellite, based on Loral's 1300 spacecraft bus, will be launched in 2004 to provide high-speed internet service in the USA.
