AgustaWestland has sold an AW139 medium twin helicopter to the Guangxi Province Police department.

This joins an AW109 that the Finmeccanica susidiary has sold to the service, says the company.

The AW139 will be used for law enforcement, civil protection, and disaster relief missions across the province, says the company. The company also recently delivered an AW139 to the Nanning Public Security Bureau in Guangxi Province.

"This new contract is part of a helicopter fleet modernisation and expansion programme which will include further units to even better serve the local community," says AgustaWestland.

It adds that it plans to expand its presence in China as the national low-altitude airspace opens up in the coming years, helping in the use and growth of helicopters in the country.

The company says that it has a 90% share of the police helicopter fleet, having also sold the AW119Ke single engine helicopter to various services in the country. It has sold over 30 units in total in the country, particularly for law enforcement, harbour pilot shuttle, water pollution monitoring and passenger transport.

It has a joint venture with state-owned aerospace conglomerate AVIC for the local assembly of the CA109 light twin helicopter - the Chinese variant of the AW109.
