Struggling Middle Eastern start-up carrier RAK Airways has lost chief executive Kishu Teckchandani just four months after he was brought in to succeed former head Jack Romero.
RAK Airways confirms that Teckchandani has left the Ras Al Khaimah-based airline which has suffered a number of setbacks in its bid to become the United Arab Emirates’ fourth flag-carrier.
The airline has replaced him with chief operating officer Khalid Almeer. A source close to the company says: “As of now he’s the one in charge of the company.”
RAK Airways, which has been battling to establish operations, has not given a reason for Teckchandani’s leaving. He was appointed in February this year after the equally-sudden departure of Jack Romero.
Khalid Almeer has served as a pilot for Gulf Air, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways on several Boeing and Airbus types.
RAK Airways has a Boeing 757-200 aircraft and conducted its first service, a charter flight to Turkey, on 23 June but it is unclear whether this operation will be sustained. The carrier had been planning to perform scheduled flights to a number of destinations in Iran and India.
