Ukraine’s Antonov design bureau, Russian heavylift specialist Volga-Dnepr and Russian aircraft factory Aviastar are to set up a management company to handle a project to build up to 50 modernised Antonov An-124 freighters. Volga-Dnepr Group president Alexei Isaikin says the project is tentatively worth $6.4 billion and he envisages two phases running to 2025. Aviastar would build around 50 modernised An-124M-150s by 2008. The aircraft will have a four-member crew.
