Afghanistan's national carrier, Ariana Afghan Airlines, wants to purchase newer widebody aircraft including its first freighter.
Ariana wants to buy one Boeing 767-300ER, one 767-300 Freighter and one 747-400 Combi, says Fraidoon Jahan, an airline official assigned to help the procurement. He says Ariana wants to wet-lease aircraft this year and hopes to later switch to purchase arrangements.
Ariana has three Airbus A300B4s, one Antonov An-24 and three Boeing 727s. It uses the An-24 for domestic passenger services and the other aircraft for international services from Kabul.
