Boeing has handed over the first of 12 new-build AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters to be delivered to the Greek army this year. Athens’ first new Apache was prepared for shipping to Greece from Boeing’s Mesa production plant in Arizona, after completing flight testing. The manufacturer declines to reveal how many aircraft will be delivered in its first batch, but confirms that all 12 will be shipped by mid-2007. Greece last year outlined plans to also upgrade its current fleet of 20 AH-64As to the Longbow standard. Boeing has also received contracts worth a combined $1.1 billion to upgrade 96 AH-64Ds for the US Army and 30 for the United Arab Emirates under the company’s extended Block II remanufacturing programme.
