AUVSI: Recon recharges on the run

ReconRobotics Inc.is showcasing its new portable charger for its Recon Scout throwable robot, called the Field Charging Unit.

By plugging the 1.1lb robot into the FCU, a soldier using a military standard BA 2590 battery can perform multiday field missions using the same robot, said Jack Klobucar, director of marketing for ReconRobotics. The operator control unit for the robot can also stay charged.

"For two- or three-day-long patrols, this is a really important part," he said.

The runtime of Recon Scout is about equal to its charge.
