Boeing's X-45A demonstrated the first delivery of a precision-guided weapon by an unmanned combat air vehicle on 18 April, with the release of an inert, 250lb (115kg) GPS-guided small smart bomb against a ground target at China Lake, California. After target confirmation, arm and release consent commands from the human operator, the UCAV autonomously manoeuvred, opened the weapons bay and released the bomb when it determined it was within range of the target, a truck.
