China Southern Airlines has announced it has entered an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of 36 narrowbody and widebody aircraft.

The Chinese carrier says it will purchase six Airbus A330s as well as 30 Airbus A320 aircraft from the manufacturer.

It says the A330s will be delivered over a one year period to 2014. The A320 aircraft will be delivered in stages between 2012 and 2015.

China Southern has a backlog of 103 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. It is due to receive 25 A320s between 2011 and 2015 while the A330-200 current backlog total seven aircraft with deliveries scheduled between 2011 and 2013. China Southern also has 25 Boeing 737-700s and 30 737-800s on order.
