China's 601 Research Institute, working closely with manufacturer Shenyang Aircraft, is windtunnel-testing a stealthy fighter design. The aircraft resembles the Lockheed Martin/Boeing F/A-22, but the wing and tail platforms are similar to those of the Lockheed Martin F-16. Pictures of the model have emerged amid reports that Shenyang has been selected over Chengdu Aircraft to begin development of a "J-X" heavyweight fighter.
