Lufthansa Technik has launched a voluntary online training and registration initiative for unmanned air vehicle operators.

The maintenance specialist says that the free self-study programme will provide participants with basic training in flight safety, aerodynamics, meteorology, and UAV technology and operation. Once completed, participants will receive a certificate dubbed “SafeDrone Code of Conduct”, LHT adds.

Operators can register themselves and their aircraft on a database, and can receive a number plate for their UAVs.

“The open and completely transparent platform allows collaboration between all interested market players and provides them with direct access to recognized standards for technology, quality and security in the use of drones,” asserts the MRO group, which developed the programme together with Lufthansa’s aviation training arm.

LHT adds: “The package will be extended continually for discerning and professional users.”
