There is still confusion as to whether any transmission was received from the missing EgyptAir Airbus A320.

While the Egyptian civil aviation ministry had disclosed that an emergency signal had been received at 04:26, the civil aviation minister, Sherif Fathi, has since denied this.

The signal had been timed at 04:26, some 90min after the aircraft’s scheduled arrival time in Cairo – suggesting a possible transmission from a locator beacon. The nature of the transmission has not been clarified.

But Fathi, speaking during a briefing about the disappearance, says the disclosure was an error.

He stresses that no debris has yet been recovered from the aircraft, which was operating flight MS804 from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Cairo.
