Pratt & Whitney has announced a trio of orders for PW4000 engines to power expanded Boeing 747-400 fleets in the Asia Pacific region.

Deliveries to Air China of three aircraft powered by PW4056 engines, rated at 250kN (50,000lb) of thrust, will begin in June 1997.

In Taiwan, China Airlines has placed four firm orders and four options on 747-400s powered by the engine.

Malaysia's national carrier, Malaysia Airline System, has ordered 45 PW4056 engines to power 10 firm-order aircraft. If three options are exercised the airline will purchase an additional 12 PW4000s.
