Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental airport closed on 19 September due to flooding as a result of tropical storm Imelda.

“No arriving flights into Houston today, only few departing flights. Flight operations are estimated to resume tomorrow afternoon per the FAA,” the airport said on Twitter at 17:00 local time. It advises passengers to check with their airline to learn the status of their flights.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s ATC System Command Center notes that “the George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport (IAH) was closed as of Sep 19” at 13:30 local time. The FAA expects the airport to reopen at 13:30 tomorrow.

The airport has been struggling to deal with weather throughout the day. As of 17:30 local time, 930 flights had been cancelled.

The storm is forecast to continue dumping heavy rain on southeastern Texas into Friday afternoon.
