Malaysia Airlines has signed a codesharing agreement with LATAM Airlines, extending its reach into South America starting this month.

The Malaysian carrier will codeshare on LATAM-operated flights from points in Australia and New Zealand to Santiago, and LATAM will codeshare on Malaysia-operated flights to Kuala Lumpur.

MAS Latam codeshare

Cirium schedules data shows that this is the first codeshare between Malaysia and LATAM, which are members of the Oneworld alliance. LATAM though is leaving Oneworld in May, after striking a joint venture deal with SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines to replace its regulator-blocked planned tie-up with Oneworld partners American Airlines and British Airways.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines began a Kuala Lumpur-Kertajati service on 13 February with Boeing 737-800s, operated twice weekly.

The route marks the first international service to be operated out of Kertajati. Before this, the schedules data indicated that Kertajati had only handled domestic flights to eight Indonesian destinations.

Kertajati becomes Malaysia Airlines’ seventh destination in Indonesia after Jakarta, Denpasar, Medan, Pekanbaru, Surabaya, and Solo.
