Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has struck a deal with UK design house Conran & Partners and hopes to convince customers for its Project U widebody interior completion service to accept cleaner designs than traditionally associated with corporate jets.

Conran becomes the first member of the Project U network of interior designers that aims to give customers of LHT's completion centre "a much higher attention to design detail" than is currently possible.

LHT vice-president for VIP and government, Rüdiger Hornig, says the company is "traditionally engineering driven", so the tie-up with Conran and others is an attempt to "capture the style of the customer, then look at certification of that style".

Meanwhile, LHT has signed a deal to become the preferred supplier of interiors for VIP versions of the Airbus A380 large airliner. LHT exhibited a mock-up of the upper-deck layout (above) at the EBACE show following interest from the head-of-state sector (Flight International, 10-16 May).

Airbus Corporate Jetliner vice- president Richard Gaona says one sale of the A380VIP version is likely this year.
