Australia has taken delivery of its seventh Boeing C-17A strategic transport.

The aircraft arrived at RAAF Amberley following Canberra’s announcement in April 2015 that it would obtain two additional examples of the type, says Australia’s Department of Defence in a statement.

Canberra’s final example will arrive in late 2015.

“The active involvement of a number of United States and Australian agencies has been pivotal in meeting the successful delivery of this aircraft and I applaud everyone involved in the acquisition program,” says minster for defence Kevin Andrews.

“With its proven ability to transport heavy equipment, vehicles and helicopters in a short time frame, the C-17A’s capabilities are vital to Australia’s national security and safety.”

The RAAF has used the C-17 fleet to support military operations in the Middle East as well as humanitarian relief missions.
