Bellevue, Washington-based Luma Technologies [stand 1949]is seeing strong interest in its retrofitable LED warning panels for Beechcraft King Airs, as operators realise the advantages over the type's existing filament bulb units.

"It's old technology," says Luma president Bruce Maxwell, "they are very hot and unreliable."

The company's Lumatech panels are manufacturer-approved and covered by a supplemental type certificate. Luma hopes to sell between 50 and 100 per year.

Their popularity is increasing, says Maxwell, as operators upgrade their aircraft with the Garmin G1000 flightdeck: "If they don't do it at the time, they soon do as the old lamps look really poor next to those nice big displays."

Talks are continuing with Beechcraft, he adds, as they look to secure line-fit status for the product, but its restructuring has slowed progress.
