Both pilots of a Jazz Aviation regional jet have reportedly been fatally injured during a collision with an emergency vehicle at New York’s LaGuardia airport.
The MHIRJ CRJ900 aircraft – operating an Air Canada Express service – had arrived at LaGuardia from Montreal late on 22 March.
Jazz states that 72 passengers and four crew members were on board at the time. The condition of the occupants of the aircraft and the fire truck has yet to be confirmed.
The US FAA says the aircraft struck a firefighting truck on runway 4, on which the aircraft had landed.
Images from the scene show the aircraft tipped on its tail with the cockpit section badly damaged. They confirm the identity of the jet as C-GNJZ
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board have opened an investigation into the collision.
