The US government has cleared the sale of four Textron Aviation Beechcraft AT-6C Wolverine light-attack aircraft to Tunisia, with the deal worth $326 million.

Approval for the potential Foreign Military Sales-programme deal was announced by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a notification to Congress on 26 February.

In addition to the aircraft, the package will include a range of bombs, over 3,000 BAE Systems Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) guided rockets, sensors, guns, training, technical support, and other products and services.

“The proposed sale will improve Tunisia’s ability to meet current and future threats by increasing their capability and capacity to counter terrorism and other violent extremist organisation threats,” says the DSCA.

“The AT-6 platform will bolster their capability to respond to and engage threats in multiple areas across the country. Additionally, the procurement of the AT-6 aircraft strengthens interoperability between Tunisia, regional allies, and the United States,” it adds.
